Caring for Your Naomi
Everything you need to know to provide the best home for your new companion
Diet & Nutrition
Low-fat diet crucial - 65% pellets, 30% vegetables, 5% fruits and treats. Avoid nuts and seeds as primary treats. Focus on vegetables like sweet potato, squash, and leafy greens.
Housing & Environment
Large, sturdy cage 40"x30"x60" minimum. Heavy-gauge construction - they're powerful chewers. Need extensive toys and foraging opportunities. A quiet, consistent environment is essential.
Social Needs
The most cuddly of all parrots but this creates challenges. Need extensive interaction (4-6 hours daily) but also need training in independence. Best for experienced bird owners.
Health Considerations
High rates of feather plucking and self-harm behaviors. Prone to obesity, fatty liver disease, and respiratory issues. Mental health as important as physical health.
Training Tips
Highly intelligent but emotionally complex. Require patient, consistent training. Focus heavily on independence and coping skills. Can learn to talk and do tricks. Never use punishment-based methods.
