Caring for Your Rambo
Everything you need to know to provide the best home for your new companion
Diet & Nutrition
Varied diet essential - 50% pellets, 30% vegetables, 15% fruits, 5% nuts. They particularly enjoy root vegetables, pomegranates, and leafy greens. Moderate nut intake due to high fat content.
Housing & Environment
Needs very large enclosure - minimum 40"x30"x60". Their calm nature makes them suitable for bird rooms. Heavy-gauge stainless steel construction essential. Variety of wood perches.
Social Needs
Often called the 'gentle giant' - more laid-back than other macaws. Forms deep bonds and enjoys cuddle time. Needs 3-4 hours daily interaction. Generally good with respectful children.
Health Considerations
Prone to Proventricular Dilatation Disease and Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease. Regular health monitoring important. Their large size means injuries can be significant.
Training Tips
Patient and eager to please. Their calm demeanor makes training sessions pleasant. Can learn to talk though not as prolific as Blue & Golds. Excel at trick training.
